Built between 1861 and 1875 in the heart of modern Paris by the young architect Charles Garnier, the opera house is a spectacle in itself. An emblematic monument of the Second Empire, it was inaugurated under the Third Republic by Mac-Mahon in the presence of numerous dignitaries, including the Lord Mayor of London and the Spanish royal family. It was an enormously costly project, completed despite major technical difficulties and deep disagreements with Baron Haussmann.

The competition was a landmark event that brought together the finest architects in Europe: 171 projects were submitted. Against all expectations, it was the young and relatively inexperienced Charles Garnier who won.

Everything was conceived by Garnier to dazzle the eye: dream-like decorations featuring gilded paintings, polychrome marbles and mosaics. From the famous Box 5 of the Phantom of the Opera to the "little rats" of the ballet, relive the great magical moments of the Opéra Garnier and take centre stage yourself.

To bring this enchanting journey to a truly unforgettable close, we recommend attending a performance at the Opéra Garnier — an experience that elevates the visit into a lasting memory.
