Musée d'Orsay
Let yourself be guided through the Impressionist masterpieces and the treasures of the Musée d'Orsay.
Before becoming one of Paris's most prestigious museums in 1986, the Musée d'Orsay was a railway station built in the heart of the capital for the 1900 Universal Exhibition. A cutting-edge building for its time, the station gradually fell into disuse as trains modernised. The official decision to convert it into a museum was taken in 1977 under the government of Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, and the museum was inaugurated in 1986 by François Mitterrand.
Known the world over for its rich Impressionist collection, the museum also brings together, in all its diversity, the Western artistic output from 1848 to 1914, ensuring continuity with the Louvre Museum.
During the visit, you will discover the innovative artistic movements of the 19th century that challenged the strict rules of the Academy of Fine Arts: Realism, the Barbizon school, Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, through the works of Millet, Manet, Monet, Degas, Renoir, Gauguin, Van Gogh and many others.
